Top questions about the conference
What does my conference registration fee include?
Your conference registration fee includes all educational sessions, continuing education credits, and our Sunday evening dinner dance.
At this year's conference, your registration fee will include the following meal event - the 20th Anniversary Recognition Dinner Party and Dance on Sunday evening, May 6 from 7 PM to 9:30 PM. There will be great food, music, and a cash bar. We invite you to come and join in our anniversary celebration! The band playing this year is the "Sunshine City Rock Band" from Pyramid Services in Tallahassee.
All other breaks and meals are "on your own." There are many options for dining -- both in the hotel and very near by. If you are looking for an upscale steak house, Jack's Place
restaurant right in the hotel, is home to the world's largest collection of autographed
caricatures. It has been named one of
Florida Trend's top restaurants in Orlando and Orlando magazine's Best
Restaurant on International Drive. It serves up its famous prime
steaks and fresh seafood, as well as other options, such as the
hefty 16-ounce veal chop and mouthwatering sesame crusted tuna, as well
as even more chicken, pasta, and vegetarian dishes, like the savory
vegetable ratatouille and herbed cheese in phyllo. After dinner,
nightlife awaits at the newly renovated Backstage Nightclub & Sports
Bar, which features a huge dance floor, live music on weekends along
with DJs spinning Top 40 hits, six 50-inch flat screen TVs for the
ultimate high-definition sports, and an all-new recreation area with
pool tables, darts, and video games. The hotel also offers a coffee
shop, a large cafeteria-style restaurant, and a
beverage/snack/sandwich/coffee convenience store. And there is always
room service! all your dining options.
Coffee - you know it, you love it, you can't live it without it! We have good news! Every room has a coffee/tea maker with free coffee for you to brew in the comfort of your hotel room. Get yourself going in the morning by enjoying a cup before you come down for the conference. If you need a mid-morning coffee pick-up or quick snack during the conference breaks, there is a coffee shop in the lobby on the first floor very close to the conference area. There is also a cafeteria in the lobby at which you can purchase coffee. A few of last year's conference evaluations requested that there be microwaves in the room. We did ask the hotel whether microwaves could be made available for those attendees who requested them. We were informed that microwaves are not allowed in the hotel rooms because of fire code regulations.
Can I bring my family or friends to the conference?
Yes, you may. If your family members or friends will just be sharing your hotel room and not participating in any conference events, there is no charge. If you family member wants to join you for the Sunday recognition dinner and dance, there is a guest registration charge to cover the cost of the food. You can add a guest registration when you register for the conference registration. Please make sure to include the guest's name.
How many nursing CEs are offered for the 2012 conference and how do I get my CE certificate?
The Developmental Disabilities Nurses Association's 20th Annual Education Conference is in the CE approval process at this time. The amount of CE that you receive at the conference will depend on the number of days and the number of sessions that you attend.
As a point of reference, the number of contact hours is based on 1 contact hour equals 60 minutes of learning time. For example, a 1 hour and 30 minute session would equal 1.5 contact hours. To obtain your CE certificates after the conference, you will go to the DDNA website and complete an online conference evaluation for each of the sessions attended. Once you complete the evaluations for each session you attended, you can print out your certificates directly from the website.
Are we allowed to share hotel rooms with other conference attendees?
Yes, you may. Check with the hotel when you register for any additional charges. If you are looking to share a hotel room, you can post a message in the Forums section of the DDNA website in the Conference forum. There you may find someone who would also like a roommate or to share a ride.
How do I get my conference manual?
You can print out your conference manual FREE from the website in advance of the conference. You have the option to print out all the conference sessions, or just those sessions that you plan to attend. Because we have to wait for speakers to send their final slides and handouts to us, the conference manual will be available online beginning sometime in April. For those who would like a bound and printed conference manual, you have the option of purchasing one directly from DDNA's printer in advance of the conference for $25. If you are bringing your own laptop on which to take notes, you may request a flash drive or CD containing the conference manual. You will be asked how you would like to get your conference manual when you register for the conference. For more information about obtaining a conference manual, click on "Conference Manual" in the Quick links box on any of the conference pages of this website.
Does the cost of registration include my airfare and hotel room?
Your hotel, airfare, and other expenses are your responsibility. DDNA has arranged a discounted $119 hotel price for you during the conference and for a few days right before and after the conference, in case you want to add some vacation days to your conference attendance. The airport is 12 miles from the hotel.
The hotel has set aside some extra days both before and after the conference dates for people who would like to stay and enjoy a fun vacation. We recommend that if you are planning on coming early or staying longer at the resort that you book these rooms as soon as possible because there is limited availability for these extra days. Make sure that you let the hotel know that you are a DDNA conference attendee when you register for these extra days so that you can get the discounted room rate.
